The Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Level-1B (L1B) Geo-located Earth View VIS Radiance, Zoom-in-Mode (OML1BRVZ) Version-3 product is now available to public from the NASA GSFC Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC). The OML1BRVZ files are stored in the HDF4 based EOS Hierarchical Data Format (HDF-EOS). The radiances for the earth measurements (also referred as signal) and its precision are stored as a 16 bit mantissa and an 8-bit exponent. The signal can be computed using the equation: signal = mantissa x 10^exponent. For the precision, the same exponent is used as for the signal.

OMI data users must be aware of the following:

From April 5th 2016 onwards, the information derived from the Nominal Ice and Snow Extent (NISE) maps that is stored in the OMI Level-1B Ground Pixel Quality Flags is not been updating. The information in these flags is therefore now based on the latest available NISE map from April 4 2016. This is due to problems with the 37V channel of the DMSP F17 satellite from which the NISE maps are derived. This 37V channel generates erroneous data. No alternative source for these NISE maps is currently available. Note that this also impacts the quality of the Level-2 products.

The version 003 Level-1B product is the first public release. The quality of this product is not fully validated yet.
