GCMD Contributes to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS)

The Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) is an international effort to monitor the Earth for societal benefits and sustainable development. The Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) continues to coordinate with the global community of international (e.g. CEOS International Directory Network), intergovernmental, and regional organizations providing solutions for the 10-year GEOSS Implementation Plan.

The GCMD contributes to GEOSS by offering a web service that utilizes the Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) protocol. This service provides GEOSS with the capability to perform distributed queries of NASA’s Earth Science metadata collection. The CSW service is registered within the GEOSS registry system, which allows NASA’s metadata to be fully searchable within the GEOSS portal. In addition, as a service to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), the GCMD has also made US GEO and Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) members’ metadata collections available to GEOSS from the CSW service.
