Summary
Abstract: "Use of Coupled Wetland-Agricultural Ecosystem for Water Quality
Remediation" examines the water quality benefits that can be
achieved in a coupled wetland-agriculture ecosystem in
comparison to a typical "drainage only" water table management
system. The purpose of this rersearch is to characterize wetland
phase effects on soil hydraulic properties, hydrology, anaerobic
and aerobic processes, and nitrogen transport.

Collection Methodology: The quality of water discharged from
replicated no till corn/soybean agricultural management systems
with "drainage only" water table management or a coupled
wetland-agricultural ecosystem determied by monitorig daily
subsurface drainage discharge from each of 12 field plots for
nitrate-N, dissolved oxygen and bromide. The remediation
potential if anaerobic vs. aerobic transformation processes
characterized by monitoring soil aeration indicators such as
redox potential and dissolved oxygen content in the soil, soil
water and discharge. Nutrient cycling measurements made before
planting and after harvest each year.
