Summary
Abstract: The data have been organized into two categories: Analogue surveys and
digitally acquired surveys.

Analogue Surveys: Original analogue data were collected from 1947
until the late 1970's in the format of 1:63,360 or 1:50,000 contour
maps. These were digitized and profile records were created by
locating the intercept of each contour interval (typically 10 nT
intervals) along flight path lines. Typical line spacing was half mile
(805 m) and altitude 1000 feet (305 m) above ground. The profile data
records consist of latitude, longitude, magnetic value for each
digitized point, and a magnetic value levelled to the national
datum. The magnetic values levelled to the national datum have been
gridded to a 200 m interval and are available on-line and
free-of-charge via the Geoscience Data Repository for Geophysical and
Geochemical Data (see Access above). The profile data are available,
for a fee, from the Geophysical Data Centre. Individual 1:50,000 scale
map sheets of profile data (lat/long/magnetic value) are $8
each. Individual grid data (magn values) are: 800 m - $0.50 each, 400
m - $2. and 200 m - $8 per 1:50,000 scale sheet plus gridding charge.

Digitally Acquired Surveys: Digitally acquired surveys have been flown
from the 1970's to the present. Both reconnaissance and detailed
surveys have been acquired. Reconnaissance survey line spacing ranges
from 800 m to 2, 4 and 6 km, and the surveys were flown at a constant
barometric altitude or in some instances, mean terrain
clearance. Recorded parameters typically include: total field
magnetics, radar and barometric altimetry. Detailed surveys are target
specific surveys with 300 m being the typical line spacing and 150 m
mean terrain clearance the flying height. Recorded parameters include
some or all of the following: total field magnetics, radar and
barometric altimetry, navigation information, vertical gradient
magnetics,VLF-EM, several EM channels. All digitally acquired surveys
are available via the Geoscience Data Repository for Geophysical and
Geochemical Data (see Access above). Both profile and gridded data
sets, as well as metadata for each survey, are available on-line and
free-of-charge. These data are also available, for a fee, from the
Geophysical Data Centre. Prices for the digital data are based on line
kilometres. Profile data of latitude, longitude and magnetic value are
$0.01/line km. Profile data including latitude, longitude, magnetic
values, radar, barometric altitude, plus where recorded: electronic
navigation and VLF-EM, vertical gradient magnetics are $0.03/line
km. 800 m grid cell size magnetic values are $0.0625 per 100 km, 400 m
are $0.25 and 200 m are $1.00 plus gridding charges. Gridded data are
available and prices reflect grid interval. Please consult
distributor. These data are being collected to improve our
understanding of the Canadian landmass and near offshore regions.
This knowledge is fundamental to mineral and hydrocarbon exploration,
resource assessment, land utilization studies and identification of
natural hazards.
