Summary
Abstract: Consists of surface to upper-air analysis data on the whole mesh
octagon grid for Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and on the
tropical strip grid. Analyses also available on whole mesh grid for
entire Northern Hemisphere from January 1977 to December 1980. Each
analysis includes all mandatory pressure levels (surface, 1000, 850,
700, 500, 400, 300, 250, 200, 150, 100, 70, 50, 30, 20, and 10 MB).
Analysis times 00Z and 12Z. Dew point depression included in analyses
north of about 20 degrees N only. HUFANL (up to 100 MB) and MULTAN
(above 100 MB) models were used to produce analyses through 12Z on 17
March 1984. After that time, HIRAS was the analysis source. Data
sources include conventional surface reports, upper-air soundings, and
satellite data. A summary of these analyses (Summarized Coarse Mesh
Analysis) is also available. It summarizes each of the above elements
by year, month, and hour for each pressure level. Summation,
summation squared, and number of analyses used are computed for each
element. Wind elements (U, V, and U-V cross product) are stored on
one tape, with the remaining elements on another.

Elements reported are: u-wind component, Temperature, v-wind
component, Dew point depression, D-value, u-v cross product, Sea-level
pressure, Density.
