Climate Prediction Center's Weekly Population Weighted State, Regional, and National Cooling Degree Day Forecasts for the U.S.Entry ID: CAC_CFSTWPWS
Abstract: This data sets contains weekly population weighted cooling degree day
forecasts for each state, each region (9), and for the contiguous
U.S. A mean daily temperature (average of the daily maximum and
minimum temperatures) of 65 degrees F is the base for cooling degree
day computations. Each state's record contains the total number of
weeks a forecast was issued, ... number of forecast weeks deviation from
normal, the deviation from last week, total cooling degree day
accumulation for the season, deviation from normal and percentage, and
deviation from last year and percentage. The data set also includes a
table of electric home air conditioned customer weighted data in the
same terms as above for each of the 9 regions and for the contiguous
U.S. The data are collected from ground stations throughout the
U.S. The data are displayed in tabular form. CAC only keeps the
previous week's data on-line.
Similar to the weekly degree day summaries, the weekly degree day
forecasts are calculated for state climate divisions from individual
station's temperature forecasts, then population weighted to more
accurately reflect the energy consumption at the state, regional, and
national levels. The individual station's temperature forecasts are
automatically obtained from 2 sources. The first 2 days are retrieved
from the Techniques Development Lab (TDL), while days 3-7 are received
from the National Meteorological Center's Medium Range Forecast (MRF).
If any of the stations do not have a temperature forecast available,
there are 'substitute' stations that are used whenever needed.
Currently, the weekly degree day forecasts are available on Sunday for
the week of that Sunday through Saturday.
