The PSU Weather Center is sponsored by the Department of Natural Sciences. Ted Wisniewski of PSC Computer Services installed the HTTP software and provided a startup tutorial. Dan Vietor fromerly of Purdue University, now with Unisys, donated the ... Weather Processor (WXP) software package and helped with product generation scripts. UNIDATA personnel provided assistance and ideas. PSU and the National Science Foundation provided capabilities and equipment used for this server. Harold Maybeck of the PSU Meteorology Program produced the logo design. The Main Menu consists of Past Weather, Current Weather, Forecast Weather, and Other WWW servers.
The Past Weather Items include the U.S. observed maximum and minimum temperatures, observed 24-hour precipitation accumulation, observed snow cover map, 24-hour surface observation summary for Concord, New Hampshire, National Weather Service (NWS) summary for selected cities, and NWS U.S. ski reports.
The Current Weather items feature observed U.S. temperatures and station plots, observed temperatures for New England and station plots, U.S. surface analysis (temperature, pressure, and winds), U.S. Infrared satellite image, 24-hour U.S. Infrared satellite loop (movie), U.S. radar/precipitation summary, 24-hour U.S. radar/weather watch loop (movie), and U.S. and Canadian surface observation summary.
The Forecast Weather Items comprise the PSC local area forecast, Today's U.S. maximum temperature forecast, Tonight's U.S. minimum temperature forecast, Tomorrow's U.S. maximum temperature forecast, Todays's, Tonight's, and Tomorrow's U.S. precipitation probability/type forecast, and the NWS forecasts for selected cities.
