Software 9.9.0 Release Notes (February 2013)
The GCMD staff is pleased to announce the release of GCMD/IDN Version 9.9.0. With this software release, the GCMD's "Next Generation" portal will now serve as the default GCMD web site (http://gcmd.nasa.gov). The new web site offers an advanced search refinement capability. This option permits users to navigate the comprehensive GCMD keyword taxonomy through a "tree" structure and perform freetext, spatial, and temporal searches within the same query. In response to each refinement the interface displays the keywords in a dynamically updating window, where keyword are displayed as broader terms at the top with each subsequent level revealing a narrower term. As the user further refines the query, terms unrelated to the search drop out while the number of records matching the query (displayed to the right of each keyword) inform the user exactly how many records match that term. The user can browse the data set and data services titles that match the query in the right hand window and view the detailed metadata.
The "Legacy" GCMD web site will continue to run as a portal and will be phased out in the Fall of 2013. Customized GCMD Portals will use the "Classic" GCMD format for this release.
