The <Project> is the name of the scientific program, field campaign, or project from which the data or service were collected.

This field allows for the specification of keywords that are the names of the projects.  These keywords are important for the search and retrieval of information from the GCMD.  The field <Project> consists of the short name and the long name of the project.  There is a 1:1 correspondence between the short name and the long name.

• <Short_Name> is the abbreviated name of the project from which the data were collected. 
• <Long_Name> is the full name of the project from which the data were collected.

• The <Project> field is highly recommended and repeatable.
• <Short_Name> 1 to 80 characters from the UTF-8 character set, except “>”
• <Long_Name> 1 to 220 characters from the UTF-8 character set, except “>”
• <Short_Name> and <Long_Name> must be selected from the controlled set of Project keywords. However, new project identifiers may only be added if the project does not already appear in the Project keyword List.
• The <Short_Name> is usually a mnemonic or abbreviated version of the <Long_Name>.  Dashes (-) or slashes (/) may be used in the <Short_Name> to denote sub-projects or projects with multiple organizations, groups or agencies. When submitting a new <Short_Name>, always check the Project Keyword Lists to ensure mutual exclusivity among project short names.  No two projects may have the same <Short_Name>.
