The sealed proportional counter had a collimator and was sensitive to X rays from 1.5 to 20.2 keV. The CDTE detectors had discriminators that provided threshold values of 15, 30, 60, and 90 keV. The investigation was primarily concerned with X rays produced in the atmosphere by precipitating electrons.
