This CD-ROM data product is known as the Mediterranean Oceanic Data
Base and is available from the Support Office for Regional Research on
Global Environmental Change in the Mediterranean Basin and Subtropical
Africa, also known as MEDIAS.
The dual CD-ROM package contains a one year set of surface parameters
for 1994 over the Mediterranean sea from different data sources.
These parameters, ... generated by different processing centers, are
derived from space measurements or meteorological and sea state
models. The database includes, among other parameters, sea surface
temperature (NOAA/AVHRR) and sea surface height (TOPEX/POSEIDON and
ERS-1), surface wind (ERS-1), solar irradiance (METEOSAT),
meteorological parameters (surface temperature, moisture, pressure,
wind, and heat flux), and sea state parameters (wave and swell height,
direction and period). The meteorological and sea state parameters
come from ARPEGE and WAM models provided by METEO-FRANCE.
The product is delivered with a data extraction interface and has
browse capabilities. It is available for all scientific users.
The main goal of the MEDIAS network is to promote appropriate
interdisciplinary studies that address global environmental issues
from a regional perspective, and to develop longterm observing
systems, data management, modelling, training, synthesis of results,
and dialogue with the socio-economic world, on a collaborative basis
at regional scale.
