Abstract:
The NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) National Operational
Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) server address on the WWW is
http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/. Data may also be obtained via an anonymous
FTP site at FTP.NOHRSC.NWS.GOV. Login name: anonymous, Password: Your
e-mail address.
NOHRSC also has an operation snow products search engine for locating
NOHRSC data:
... http://www.nohrsc.nws.gov/98/products7.htm
The NOHRSC is a branch of the NWS assigned to measure snow cover in
the U.S. and Canada using satellite data, ground observations,
airborne sensors and intensive hydrologic modeling. The WWW site
features data from the annual snow cover CD-ROM, access via FTP,
images, method explanations, and links to other servers. The home
page also provides information on NOHRSC Snow Estimation and Updating
System, Satellite Hydrology Program, and Airborne Snow Survey Program.
The files at the NOHRSC FTP site generally follow the WWCYYJJJ.TTT
format, where WW is the NOHRSC Window, YY is the year, JJJ is the
Julian date, and TTT is the type of data, GIF image, SHEF file or ZIPped
raster. The C is the code corresponding to images of areal extent of
snow cover, snow water equivalent (SWE), percent of SWE, soil
moisture, and snow depth. Other data include mean air temperature and
degree days.
The current NOHRSC products include the current seasons' snow cover
images for the U.S. including Alaska, and Canada. The images
correspond to particular regions of the U.S. and Canada. The
operational snow mapping season begins in January and continues to
May. The images are in GIF, SHEF and Raster format.
Other products include NOHRSC data for NWS River Forecast Centers:
