Abstract:
This dataset includes a series of maps which identify flood risk in areas,
villages, and river systems. Variables: a real extent of flood plains, ice
presence, water levels, flow. The initial data collection is still ongoing.
Areas covered include New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. This data is
currently being used to accumulate information to reduce flood damage.
Information is used to
... direct development away from flood-prone areas. Maps are
used to foster public awareness of flood prone areas and for zoning and
regulation purposes. Also, data are used to assist in flood forecasts for the
St. John River.
