Abstract:
This data set contains moored temperature, salinity, and velocity records from a two oceanographic moorings recovered off Cape Adare, spanning the period February 2007 to January 2011. The records are preliminary and are not yet ready for public release. The mooring covers the deepest 500 meters of the water column on the continental slope at water depths of approximately 1700 and 1900 meters. Conductivity/Temperature/Depth profiles (CTD) were obtained during cruises of the Nathanial B Palmer for mooring recovery and redeployment. These CTD data sets are archived at the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) under accession numbers 0049900 and 0070779. Additional CTD data collected during the final recovery cruise will be submitted to NODC as they are processed.
Purpose:
The CALM moored data set represents nearly continuous observations of the outflow of Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW)from the northwest Ross Sea over four years from 2007 through 2010. The length of the time series allows resolution of the seasonal variability in outflowing AABW characteristics and partially resolves interannual changes.
