Abstract:
The German data resides in 1 book, 'Der Deutschen Meteorologischen
Gesellschaft Anlasslich Ihrer 16 Tagung zu Dresden' (C/dc 320 AO)
written in German. The data contained in this book are tables and maps
of monthly surface temperature, pressure, and precipitation for cities
in Germany. The data are for the period 1828 to 1927. Monthly
parameters for each individual month contained in these data
... include:
mean pressure; precipitation totals; and frequency of days of
different temperature categories. These parameters are in both table
and map form. Monthly variables averaged over the period contained in
these data are: mean temperature and temperature categories, and
highest and lowest mean temperature. In addition, there are line
graphs and tables of monthly short wave and total radiation averaged
over the period, and hourly mean radiation for March 1928.
Additional German data and European Storm Tracks resides in 16
volumes, 'Deutsche Seewarte Monatsbericht' (C/dc 100 A4) written in
German. The data contained in these books are tables and maps of daily
and monthly surface climatic data for Germany, and cities in Central
Europe. These data are for each individual month from 1876 to
1891. The parameters included in these data are: daily mean winds;
mean monthly pressure and temperature; absolute maximum and minimum
monthly temperature; monthly wind direction and calm wind frequency;
and monthly precipitation totals. Ten-day averages of the above
parameters are also tabulated. In addition, there are maps of monthly
storm tracks covering all of Europe.
Additional data resides in 31 volumes, 'Deutsches Meteoroligisches
Jahrbuch Ergebnisse Der Meteorologischen Beobachtungen' (C/dc 100
A3d), and 'Ergebinisse Der Meteorologischen Beobachtungen fur die
Lustren 1876-1880 und 1881-1885 sowie das Dezennium 1876-1885' (C/dc
100 A3), both written in German. The data contained in these books are
tables of hourly observations and daily and monthly surface climatic
data for cities in Germany. These data are for the period 1876 to
1933. Parameters included in the hourly observations are pressure,
temperature, humidity, winds, and cloudiness. Daily parameters
incorporated in these data are mean daily and five day pressure,
temperature, and winds; maximum and minimum temperature; and daily
precipitation total.
Monthly parameters contained in these data are: mean pressure,
temperature, humidity, and cloudiness; mean maximum and minimum
temperature; absolute maximum and minimum temperature and pressure;
number of days with snow, hail, thunderstorms, sleet, fog, clear
skies, cloudy skies, and strong winds; rainfall totals; 24 hour
maximum rainfall (date included); and frequency of wind direction
observations.
The first book listed contains the above parameters for each
individual month of the period, while the second book includes the
above parameters averaged over the record.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
