Abstract:
The hourly observational data resides in 2 books, 'Meteorologische
Beobachtungen Angestellt Auf Schiffen Der Russichen Flotte' (C/db
Ao-5m) written in German, and 'Meteorological Observations on Ships of
the Russian Navy' (C/db Ao-6) written in Russian. The data contained
in these books are tables of hourly observations for cities in Eastern
Europe and Southwestern USSR for the period 1878 to
... 1887. The
parameters included in these tables are: pressure, temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, and winds.
The monthly data resides in 1 book, 'Materiaux Pour La Climatologie Du
Sud-Ouest De La Russie (Partie Dutexte)' (C/db K66m) written in
Russian and French. The data contained in these books are monthly
surface climatic data for Southwest Russia from 1813 to 1895. Monthly
parameters, for each month, and averaged over the period, contained in
these data are the following: mean pressure, air and soil temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, and evaporation; absolute maximum and minimum
air and soil temperature; number of days of frost, maximum and minimum
temperature < 0, clear skies, cloudy skies, snow, hail, thunderstorms,
and fog. Monthly variables only determined for each month are the
following: absolute maximum and minimum pressure; pressure deviation
from normal; absolute maximum 24 hour precipitation; and monthly
precipitation total. The monthly variables only averaged over the
period are mean maximum and minimum temperature, wind frequency, and
wind totals.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
