Orthorectified pan sharpened multi spectral image of eastern Heard Island, from Shag Island to Compton Lagoon. This image was derived from Quickbird satellite imagery captured on 17 January 2003.

The image processing was undertaken using the ERDAS Imagine software. The Quickbird Images processed were 03JAN17044710-M1BS-000000035786_01_P002 and 03JAN17044710-P1BS-000000035786_01_P002. The Multispectral image has a pixel resolution of +/-3.29m while the pan image has a resolution of +/-0.6m. These images were combined to produce a higher resolution colour image known as a pan sharpened ... image. To produce the pan sharpened image the following parameters were used: Method - Brovey Transform, Resampling Technique - Cubic Convolution, Data Type - Unsigned 16 bit. This image was rectified using tie points from the overlapping section of the Compton-Shag Quickbird image and those GPS control points which fell within the extent of the image. This was supplemented with a number of additional points interpolated from the RadarSat DEM which provided additional vertical (Z) control. This image was then ortho rectified using the DEM supplied by Radarsat in July 2003. The RMS error achieved had a Delta X of 7.5m and Delta Y of 7.5m. The accuracy achieved is +/- 7.5m. The image was projected to UTM Zone 43 (WGS84).
