Abstract:
Heard Island, ice layer. This is a polygon dataset stored in the Geographical Information System (GIS). The ice layer shows ice/snow as depicted on the Heard Island satellite image map, published in 1991. The amount of ice/snow is as captured on the SPOT image 9 Jan 1988.
Quality
The quality of this dataset is unknown. It appears the data were digitised off the Heard Island satellite image map, published in 1991. The data were a line layer in MapInfo format. Later (approx. 1998) the data were converted into a polygon ArcInfo coverage, and to shapefile. The layer was also clipped to match the AMBIS Heard Island coastline. The dataset does not include McDonald Islands. This dataset conforms to the Australian Antarctic Spatial Data Model.
