Abstract:
Climatic data resides in 20 books, 'Deutches Meteorologishces
Jahrbuch' (C/dc 150 A2), and 'Und Der Wasserstandsaufzeichnungen am
Rhein und an Seinen Grossern Nebenflussen Fur Das Jahr', all written
in German. The data contained in these books are tables of hourly
observations and daily and monthly surface climatic data for Baden
region of Germany. These data are for each month of the period 1869
... to 1916. Parameters included in the hourly observations are pressure,
air temperature, humidity, and cloudiness. Daily parameters
incorporated in these data are mean temperature, humidity, and
cloudiness; five-day mean temperature; and daily precipitation and
snowfall totals. Monthly variables included in these data are the
following: mean pressure, temperature, humidity, and cloudiness;
maximum and minimum pressure; wind direction frequency; 24 hour
maximum precipitation; precipitation totals; days of precipitation
(general); and precipitation of varying intensities. In addition,
frost and snowfall dates are tabulated, and there are temperature
graphs for each station.
The snowfall data resides in 1 book, 'Die Schneevehaltnisse in Baden'
(C/dc 151 M259) written in German. In these summaries, definitions
are:
1. Daily/monthly/seasonal/annual data - values determined for each
consecutive period, e.g., monthly temperature data: Jan 1900, Feb
1900, Mar 1900, etc.
2. Long-term data - values determined over a period of years, e.g.,
long-term monthly temperature data using Jan 1901, Jan 1902, Jan 1903,
etc.
This book contains tables of daily and annual snowfall data for Baden
Germany from 1889 to 1916. The tables contain the following data:
long-term daily mean probability of snow greater then a certain amount
for selected dates of each month; long-term annual mean duration of
the winter; and long-term annual mean and absolute earliest and latest
snowfall.
The precipitation data resides in 1 book, 'Die
Niederschlagverhaltnisse in Baden 1888-1917' (C/dc 150 P424n) written
in German. This book contains summaries defined as in the above. The
data contained in this book are maps and tables of monthly and annual
mean precipitation data for Baden, Germany, averaged over the period
1888 to 1917.
Additional precipitation data resides in 1 book,
'Niederschlagsbeobachtungen Der Meteorologischen Stationen im
Grossherzogthum Baden' (C/dc 150 An) written in German. This book
contains summaries defined as in the above. The data contained in this
book are tables of daily precipitation totals for Baden, Germany,
determined for each individual month of the period 1888-1896.
The sunshine data resides in 1 book, 'Beitrage Zum Strahlunsklima
Badens' (C/dc 150 P424) written in German. The data contained in this
book are tables and a few graphs of daily, monthly, and seasonal solar
radiation and sunshine data for Baden Germany for the period 1895 to
1924. The tables contain the following data: long-term daily mean
solar radiation; long-term daily mean sunshine; long-term monthly mean
solar radiation; long-term monthly mean transmissivity; long-term
monthly absolute maximum solar radiation; long-term monthly sunshine
duration (for hour periods); long-term monthly mean number of days
without sunshine; long-term mean daily warming on a 1 cm2 sfc for
cloudless skies (for hour periods); long-term seasonal mean solar
radiation; long-term annual sunshine duration; long-term annual
maximum total sunshine; long-term annual mean number of days without
sunshine; and long-term annual absolute number of days without
sunshine.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
