Abstract:
The surface temperature data resides in 1 book, 'Die Wirkliche
Temperaturevertheilung in Mitteleuropa' (C/d S697) written in
German. The data contained in this book are tables and maps of monthly
and annual surface temperature for cities in Germany, Poland,
Switzerland, and Austria averaged over the period 1851 to 1890. The
only months represented in this data set are January, April, July, and
... October.
The surface climate data resides in 4 books, 'Bulletin Meteorologique
Publie Par L'Institut Central Meteorologique a Varsovie' (C/dbb AO-p)
written in Polish and French, and 'Annuaire De' L Institut
Meteorologique de Pologne' (C/dbb AO-pa) written in Polish and
French. The data contained in these books are tables of hourly
observations from 1920 to 1938 and daily, monthly, and annual surface
climatic data for Polish and Western USSR cities from 1811 to 1938.
Parameters included in the hourly observations are pressure,
temperature, vapor pressure, cloud cover, humidity, and winds. Daily
variables for each individual month are snow depth and precipitation
totals. Monthly parameters for each individual month represented in
these data include the following: mean temperature, pressure, and
cloudiness; mean maximum and minimum temperature; absolute maximum and
minimum temperature; temperature deviation from normal; temperature
maximum >25, min <0, clear skies, cloudy skies, and wind direction
frequency.
Monthly precipitation parameters averaged over the period are monthly
mean amount, variations of the monthly mean, and annual variations
from the period of record. Monthly precipitation parameters for each
individual month included in these data are the following: total
precipitation; number of days of precipitation and precipitation of a
certain intensity, and snow, hail, thunderstorms, fog, and strong
winds; and maximum 24 hour precipitation. In addition, there are
tables of the first and last date of frost and snow, and flowering
dates for particular plants.
Maps included in these data are mean monthly isotherms, isobars, and
precipitation amounts. These are for each individual month from 1920
to 1938. There are also graphs of the monthly mean water levels of
Polish rivers, number of days precipitation greater then a certain
intensity, and number of days with a snow layer.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
