Summary
Abstract: The Original Grids of the Gridded Bird Species Distribution of the Americas are converted 1- kilometer grid cell data in the Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) that cover North America, South America and the Caribbean Islands. The input vector data were created by a consortium led by Natureserve. The grids are produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information ... View entire text

Purpose: To provide a gridded version of existing vector maps of bird species distribution at 1- kilometer that preserves the original coding (1=Extant, 2= Possibly present, 3=Probably extinct, 4=Extinct, 5=Extirpated purposely, 6=Occurs on indicated island chain, and 7=Subfossil/fossil).

Quality The records of the Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT), collected over a 20 year period from 1981 to 2000, provide regional, hazard-specific mortality and economic loss rates. A crude estimation of the global earthquake hazard mortality is developed using the EM-DAT regional mortality rates, population distributions from Gridded Population of the World, Version 3 (GPWv3), and frequency/distribution ...
