Abstract:
The Top One Percent Wild Areas Dataset of the Last of the Wild Project, Version 1, 2002 (LWP-1) is derived from the LWP-1 Human Footprint Dataset. The gridded data are classified according to their raster value (wild = 0-1; not wild >1). The top 1% of the wild areas within each biome by realm are selected and identified. The dataset is produced by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the
... Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) and is available in the Interrupted Goode Homolosine Projection (IGHP) system. The purpose is to provide an upgrade to existing maps of wild areas, which in turn can be used in modeling efforts, wildlife conservation planning, natural resource management, policy-making, biodiversity studies and human-environment interactions.
The data in ARC/INFO Export (ARCE) format in the Interrupted Goode Homolosine Projection (IGHP) system are available from the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC).
