Abstract:
This data set contains major and trace element abundance for individual iron oxide grains extracted from glacial-marine Antarctic sediment. Fe-oxides were picked from the 45-500 micron fraction of diamict and sandy mud units recovered in sediment cores from around the Antarctic continental margin. Study areas include the Getz Ice Shelf region, the western Antarctic Peninsula, Larsen Ice Shelf region, George V Coast, Pyrdz Bay, and Mac. Robertson Land.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to construct an integrated set of provenance tracers for different sectors of Antarctica.
Description:
These data sets contain major, trace, and eNd values determined from the < 63 micron fraction of diamict and sandy mud units, and rock magnetic data on lithic clasts recovered in sediment cores from around the Antarctic continental margin.
Quality
Microprobe data were collected at the Washington University St. Louis Earth and Planetary Sciences Microanalysis Facility using a JEOL JXA-8200 electron microprobe. Primary and secondary standards were used for each element.
