Abstract:
Dataset contains data from 15 snow pits along a snow line. The depth of these snow pits was approximately 1.5 meters.
Nine 0.5m meters deep snow pits were also measured.
The length of snow line was 230 km, following the standard route from Rappen to SWEDARP field station Svea via Aboa/Wasa stations. The snow pit measurements were made along the same snow line as in the earlier FINNARP expeditions. -northern most point: 72 deg 45.244' S, 14 deg 18.300' W -southern most point: 74 deg 28.819' S, 11 deg 31.271' W
Measured quantities:
-temperature -density -snow crystal type -snow crystal size -stratigraphy -moisture (amount of free water), using Finnish snow fork -snow crystal photographs were taken in
later in Finland from snow samples: -pH -conductivity -oxygen isotopes (delta18O)
Purpose:
Study of temporal and spatial change in snow along the snow line. Results are compared against data from earlier FINNARP expeditions.
The data set is used as support information for light attenuation measurements done during FINNARP 2009 expedition.
