Summary
Abstract:
Ozone soundings are performed in Dumont d'Urville since 1990 (RS80 Vaisala from 1990 to 2007, MODEM from 2007 to present). About thirty soundings per year are performed, with the higher launch frequency during austral summer. These observations are conducted under the responsibility of the Institute Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL) in the framework of the French Observing Service NDACC-France, part of ... the Network for the Detection of the Atmospheric Composition Changes (NDACC). They are operated by Météo-France. The French Polar Institue (IPEV - Institut Polaire Français Paul-Emile Victor) supplies recurrent fundings and logistics. Ozone is measured using electrochemical cells which are interfaced with standard meteorological sondes similar to the daily PTU (Pressure-Temperature-Humidity) meteorological soundings and use the same detection rack. The simultaneous acquisition of ozone and meteorological parameters profiles enables deduction of the altitude and allows deriving ozone density and mixing ratio. The sensors and acquisition systems for meteorological soundings and ozone soundings are similar, but are operated independently with different set-ups.
