The goal of this Project is to increase the paleobotanical, palynological and biostratigraphic information of the Cretaceous and Paleogene in selected areas of Southern Patagonia, integrating the data obtained for the purpose of contributing to the knowledge on the main evolutionary events of the southern floras. The Austral Basin was developed in the region, during the Cretaceous and
... Paleogene. The fossiliferous units will be analyzed in this basin, with emphasis on those sequences with preliminary data that allow us to suppose the collection of abundant fossiliferous assemblages. The paleobotanical and palynological information of the Cretaceous and Paleogene of the Peninsula Antarctica is abundant, allowing a narrow comparison with Patagonia and promoting precise interpretation of the evolutionary changes of the southern floras. The obtained results will be of supreme utility for future studies and a tool for oil exploration.

Este Proyecto tiene como principal objetivo, incrementar el conocimiento paleobotánico, palinológico y bioestratigráfico del Cretácico y Paleogeno en áreas seleccionadas de Patagonia Austral, integrando posteriormente la información obtenida con el fin de contribuir al conocimiento sobre los principales eventos evolutivos de las floras australes. En la región, durante el Cretácico y Paleogeno se desarrolló la Cuenca Austral o Cuenca Magallanes. Serán analizadas las unidades fosilíferas aflorantes en esta cuenca, con énfasis en aquellas secuencias de las que se posean datos preliminares que permitan suponer la obtención de abundante material fosilífero. La información paleobotánica y palinológica del Cretácico y Paleogeno de la Peninsula Antártica es abundante permitiendo una comparación estrecha con Patagonia y una interpretación precisa de los cambios evolutivos de las 1 de 16 floras australes. Los resultados obtenidos resultarán de suma utilidad para futuros estudios y como herramienta de exploración
hidrocarburífera.
