Abstract:
Dissolved cadmium concentrations were measured in the sea water along a transect from South Atlantic to the Weddell Sea (to the continental shelf). Cadmium concentrations within a depth range of 100 to 3380 m were from 0.03 to 0.49 micrograms / litre. There was a an apparent rise in surface (100 m) water cadmium concentrations when going over from the southern Atlantic through the Antarctic convergence to the Weddell Sea. Cadmium concentrations detected in deep (1000 m) water layer did not correlate with latitude.
