Abstract:
The Global Palaeovegetation Mapping (BIOME 6000) Project is a community-wide
collaboration inaugurated in 1994 under the joint auspices of four of the
elements of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program. The aims of BIOME
6000 are to: - create fully-documented pollen and plant macrofossil data sets
for 6000 and 18,000 years before present (yr B.P.) - construct
... global maps of
biomes for these time periods, using a standard objective biomisation technique
based on plant functional types (PFTs).
This is the first release of the Biome6000 data. The data are organised
according to publications. This first release only contains the most basic
metadata (region, site name or code, latitude, longitude, and elevation) and
the biome assignments for each of the sites, if available. A more detailed
data report will be made available as soon as the regional data have come in.
