Abstract:
The Lyndon State College (LSC) Department of Meteorology server
address on the WWW is
http://apollo.lsc.vsc.edu/.
The LSC server features Weather Maps and Information for Vermont, New
England and North America via the National Weather Service (NWS). The
Vermont Weather section includes text forecasts and summaries for
... Vermont. The Surface Weather Maps section includes current surface
weather maps (plots, contours, meteograms) for the U.S. updated hourly
about 35-45 minutes past the hour. The Satellite Images section
includes the latest McIDAS generated satellite images updated hourly
between 15 and 40 minutes past the hour. The Upper Air Maps and Charts
section features isobaric charts and skew-Ts updated twice daily
approximately 01:50 and 13:50 GMT, and jet stream images updated at
approximately 8:00 and 20:00 GMT. The Forecast Weather Maps and
Charts section displays NGM forecast maps for the U.S. updated twice
daily at approximately 05:05 and 17:05 GMT, and NGM MOS Forecast
Meteograms for selected New England and U.S. cities updated at
approximately 06:10 and 18:10 GMT. Other model data include output
soundings from the RUC, ETA, and AVN models.
The Vermont Weather section contains North-Central Vermont daily
forecasts, Vermont 5-day forecast, Vermont zone forecasts, current
weather conditions, hydrologic reports, regional weather summary, and
the NWS forecast discussion.
The Surface Weather Maps section contains surface plots for regions in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and single variable plots for the
U.S. The surface contour maps are color filled contours of various
weather parameters. The composite surface maps display various types
of data (surface plots, radar echos, contours). The surface meteograms
give a 24 hour time series of weather for selected stations around New
England and North America.
The Satellite Images section provides the Northeast U.S. Enhanced IR
Image, Composite U.S. IR/Radar Image, North American Water Vapor
Image, Unidata Floater Satellite Image, Composite World Satellite
Image, and Antarctic Composite Image. These are provided by GOES-12.
The Upper Air Maps and Charts section contains Iosbaric Charts of the
U.S. at 0000 and 1200 GMT for 850, 700, 500 mb (Heights/Temps), and
300 mb (Heights/Isotachs). The Skew-T Charts and Sounding Data are for
the New England Region stations in Albany, NY, Atlantic City, NJ,
Buffalo, NY, Caribou, ME, Chatham, MA, Maniwaki, OT, and Portland, ME.
The Jet Stream Winds (300 mb) show the Global Jet Stream Chart, and
the Northern Hemisphere Jet Stream Chart.
The Model Forecast Charts section contains NGM Forecast Maps of the
12/24 hr forecast for Surface/500 mb, 36/48 hr forecast for
Surface/500 mb, 12-48 hr forecast of 850 mb Heights/Temps, 24 hr 500
mb height change, and the 12-48 hr Lifted Index forecast. The NGM MOS
Meteograms provide the 48 hr weather forecast for selected
U.S. cities.
