Abstract:
The CRESTA (Catastrophe Risk Evaluating and Standardising Target
Accumulations) zone data set helps brokers and reinsurers assess and
present risk, based on the zoning system established by the world's
leading reinsurers. Based primarily on the observed or expected
seismic activity within a country, CRESTA Zones consider the
distribution of insured values within a country as well as
administrative
... or political boundaries for easier assessment of risks.
CRESTA was originally developed as a joint project of Swiss
Reinsurance Company (Zurich), Gerling-Konzern Global Reinsurance
Company (Cologne) and the Munich Reinsurance Company (Munich). A joint
venture between Infotech Enterprises Europe Limited and Europa
Technologies brings this data into the digital mapping age. For
MapInfo users, Infotech supply an easy-to-use application, CrestaView,
for use by insurance analysts. With standard locating functions, a
user can easily pinpoint what zone a risk falls within and then
analyze and present the aggregate risk. Interrogation functions then
provide the user with basic risk assessment information which can be
further enhanced by adding a variety of national or international data
sets such as earthquake locations, storm paths, meteorological,
geological and insurance specific statistical data.
