Summary
Abstract:
A survey of the terrestrial invertebrates of the ice free areas at Cape Hallett was conducted over three spatial scales: 1) A site-wide survey of the soil and under-stone arthropods of the Cape Hallett Ice-free area; 2) An elevational survey of the distribution of mites (combined) and springtails (Collembola, identified to species) on the algal flats and scree slope at Cape Hallett and 3) the identity, abundance and distribution of arthropods across a 24 m transect in spring and summer. The data set contains the identity, abundance and distribution details for all the arthropods at Cape Hallett.

Quality
Collected specimens are lodged at Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town, South Africa. The collection consists of mounted slides and ethanol preserved specimens. All were labelled correctly and were accompanied with a full itemised description of the collection. For each transect survey, the data collected includes: GPS co-ordinates of transect, date of sampling, transect number, ... unit, mounting code, distance, species collected and how many. The museum have not yet allocated accession numbers. For more information regarding these samples, please contact: Margie Cochrane Collection Manager, Terrestrial Invertebrates Department of Natural History Iziko South African Museum 25 Queen Victoria Street PO BOX 61 Cape Town, 8001 South Africa Phone: +27 (0)21 481 3868 Fax: +27 (0)21 481 3993 Email: mcochran@iziko.org.za
