Summary
Abstract:
The MODIS/Aqua Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity (LST/E) products provide per-pixel temperature and emissivity values in a sequence of swath-based to grid-based global products. The MODIS/Aqua LST/E 8-Day L3 Global 0.05Deg CMG (Short name: MYD11C2) is configured on a 0.05º latitude/longitude climate modeling grid (CMG). The MODIS/Aqua version-041 (V41) products use a modified version-4 (V4) ... LST algorithm and version-5 (V5) data inputs. The V41 products primarily address underestimation problems in the V5 Climate Modeling Grid (CMG) products. Recent validation activities reveal that the V5 CMG products underestimate LSTs up to 6K especially in desert and semi-arid regions. The production date for this collection starts with MODIS/Aqua data acquisition from 2007-001. This beginning date is driven by the availability of the MODIS V5 data inputs (level-1B radiance data, geolocation data, cloud mask, atmospheric profiles, and land and snow cover data). The MODIS/Aqua V41 LST/E 8-Day L3 Global CMG product (Short name: MYD11C2) is an 8-day composited average, derived from the MYD11C1 daily global product, and stored as clear-sky LST values during an 8-day period in a 0.05º (5600 meters) geographic CMG. MYD11C2, therefore, inherits all the structural features of its MYD11C1 parent except for the temporal configuration. Please refer to the MYD11C1 product documentation for all algorithm-related details. The V41 MYD11C2 product comprises the following Science Data Set (SDS) layers for daytime and nighttime observations: LSTs, quality control assessments, observation times, view zenith angles, clear sky coverages, and emissivities for Bands 20, 22, 23, 29, 31, and 32. The V41 Aqua/MODIS LST/E products, including MYD11C2, are validated to Stage-2 with well-defined uncertainties over a range of representative conditions. Further details regarding MODIS land product validation for the LST/E products are available from the MODIS land team validation site. The V41 MYD11C2 product’s acquisition range started January 1, 2007 (2007-001), and will continue until the V6 reprocessing completes in 2011. The V41 LST products from 2007-001 will remain consistent with similar products from V4, and hence are amenable to combine them in a time series analysis. Users should exercise caution, and not mix the V4.x (i.e., V4 and V41) and V5 LST products in their analysis. ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: Attributes have been visually checked by the compilers. LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: Polygon features conform to the following topological rules. There are no duplicate polygons. Polygons do not self overlap. No automated procedures or tests were performed to guarantee desired topology other than visual inspection. COMPLETENESS REPORT: The completeness of the data ... reflects the feature content of the basic units chosen for this interim product for all data sources. Additional information can be found on the data sources which may be utilized in future compilations. The layer is complete in the sense that it accurately reflects the stratified-deposits units for currently completed areas, noting that edits (including additional units) may occur to this data set when it is edgematched to surrounding quadrangles during future compilations. HORIZONTAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY REPORT: The horizontal positional accuracy of this data complies with the United States National Map Accuracy Standards for 1:24,000 scale maps. According to this standard, not more than 10 percent of the locations tested are to be in error by more than 1/50 inch (40 feet) measured on the publication scale of a USGS 7.5 minute topographic quadrangle map.
