Abstract:
This dataset contains some early observations of oceanographic data from Mawson, Antarctica. Weekly observations of nutrients, chlorophyll, phytoplankton and zooplankton numbers and species identity were taken between June 1956 and February 1957. Sea surface temperatures were recorded daily during this period. The documentation contains a full listing of the data and is the only known record of this data.
Quality
At this juncture this dataset is complete Two stations were set up to allow sampling at various depths throughout the water column. The stations were in 25-30m and over 100m of water. Hydrology, plankton, water temperatures, and radiation measurements were made at each station. Please see the reference given above for further details relating to the stations, and sample methods used. As no evidence to the contrary has been established, it is concluded that this dataset is logically consistent.
