Abstract:
Ionospheric Scintillation observations at GPS (L-band) frequencies, as measured with the Novatel GSV4004B GPS Ionospheric and Total Electron Content Monitor (GISTM). The data format is proprietary binary format designed by AJ Systems, Silicon Valley, and is parsable using custom software provided by AJ Systems, Silicon Valley.
The parameters in the study are amplitude scintillation index S4,
... phase scintillation index at 1 minute intervals, total electron content (TEC), as well as the azimuth and elevation of all observed GPS satellites. Raw data is logged continuously at 50 Hz. Data units are:
-TEC = TEC units (10^16 e/m^2)
-S4 index = dimensionless units
-Phase scintillation index = rms radians
The study site is a fixed receiver site, with the geographical coverage a 600 km radius from receiver site, where azimuth range is constrained by GPS satellite orbits.
The locations are SANAE IV (71°40'25.35"S 02°50'30.50"W), Marion Island (46°52'35.91"S 37°51'34.01"E), Gough Island (40°20′58.11″S 9°52′49.17″W ). Data can be converted to RINEX Observation file format by means of custom software provided by AJ Systems, Silicon Valley.
Broader applications of the data set include the follwoing:
-GPS ionospheric scintillation modeling.
-GPS reliability prediction.
-HF Radio propagation modeling.
-Ionospheric Tomography (GPS RINEX data).
