Abstract:
This cruise was carried out using the RRS James Clark Ross during the
1997-8 season. The aim was to collect cores using a shallow rock
drill and vibrocorer from offshore King George Island in the South
Shetland Islands and also from off Seymour Island in the northern
Weddell Sea.
The drilling was carried out by a team from
... the British Geological
Survey and was very successful except in the Weddell Sea where bad ice
conditions restricted access to the area of interest.
Sparker and sidescan lines were run to identify suitable sites for
drilling and in addition, proton magnetometer data were acquired on
the passage lines to and from the Antarctic Peninsula.
