Summary
Abstract: Epibenthos of the southeastern Chukchi Sea, inclusive of Kotzebue Sound, was sampled in 1976. Otter trawl, condend, was lined with 31.8mm (1.25"). mesh for retention of fish and epifauna. Crustaceans dominated abundance while echinoderms, mainly sea stars, dominated biomass. Spatial distribution of fauna was determined by cluster analysis. Quality ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: A modified Eastern Otter trawl with a 17m horizontal opening was used. Tows were 30 min in duration at an average speed of 6.5 km h-1. Mesh size unknown. The inherent problem of trawls is to know exactly when the net reached and left the seafloor, because abundance and biomass calculations are based on the trawled area. The exact accuracy is unknown.
