Abstract:
The global fire monitoring web site at, recently moved to NASA's Earth
Observatory
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/GlobalFire/,
provides recent satellite imagery and analysis of data about
terrestrial fires and demonstration of future global fire monitoring
capabilities. Imagery from several satellite systems including NOAA,
DMSP, SeaWiFS, ERS, JERS, Landsat, SPOT and TRMM demonstrate
... the
capability of satellite systems to monitor global fires and determine
the total area of forests and grasslands burned each year and to
estimate the amount of resulting emission products. The data will be
used to develop better computer models and enhance scientists'
abilities to predict how biomass burning willl impact climate, the
environment, and air quality. Data at the Earth Observatory Global
Fire Monitoring site include 1 km AVHRR and 4 km TRMM observations.
