Summary
Abstract: An extensive collection of many Antarctic glaciological parameters is
available for the polar science community upon request. Funded by the National
Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs, The Antarctic Glaciological Data
Center (AGDC) at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) archives and
distributes Antarctic glaciological and cryospheric system data collected by
the U.S. Antarctic Program. AGDC facilitates data exchange among Principal
Investigators, preserves recently collected data useful to future research,
gathers data sets from past research, and compiles continent-wide information
useful for modeling and field work planning. Data sets are available via our
web site, http://nsidc.org/agdc/ . From here, users can access extensive
documentation, citation information, locator maps, derived images and
references, and the numerical data. More than 50 Antarctic scientists have
contributed data to the archive. We encourage you to submit your data to the
AGDC.

NSIDC encourages users of data distributed by the AGDC to cite original sources
for their contributions whenever possible. Most catalog pages provide a
recommended citation format.

Description: The WAISCORES project is part of the National Science Foundation Office
of Polar Programs' West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) initiative, which is aimed
at understanding the influence of the West Antarctic ice sheet on climate and
sea level change. WAISCORES researchers acquired and analyzed ice cores from
the Siple Dome, in the Siple Coast region, West Antarctica. These cores allow
researchers to distinguish local from regional influences on the climate
records recovered from the cores. Drilling for the Siple Dome core began in
November 1996 and finished in January 1999. The core site is located between
ice streams C and D at approximately 81" 40' S and 148" 49' W. Preliminary
studies indicate that the paleoclimate record preserved in the 1003-meter Siple
Dome ice core extends back more than 90 thousand years. Data are available via

Description: The Antarctic Glaciological Data Center (AGDC) staff and the U.S. ITASE
community are developing a data management plan for U.S. ITASE data. Archiving
of these data will ensure that:

U.S. ITASE PIs and their data sets receive data management support during
the proposed period of exclusive use. The AGDC will provide password-protected
access to an ftp storage site for use by U.S. ITASE investigators only.

U.S. ITASE data will be available to the broader scientific community
with full data management support following the period of exclusive use.
