Summary
Abstract: The National Map Elevation Query Web Services Overview

The The National Map Elevation Query Web Service returns the elevation
in feet or meters for a specific latitude/longitude point from the
USGS Seamless Elevation data sets hosted at the EROS Data Center. The
elevation values returned default to the best-available (highest
resolution) data source available at the specified point. Alternately,
this service may return the value from a specified data source, or
from all data sources. If unable to find data at the requested point,
this services returns an extremely large, negative value.

Description: The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), developed by the USGS in
cooperation with the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN), contains information
about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United
States. The Federally recognized name of each feature described in the data
base is identified, and references are made to a feature's location by State,
county, and geographic coordinates. The GNIS is our Nation's official
repository of domestic geographic names information.

The viewer is a Web-enabled portal to all of the geospatial information

creation of cartographic products.

values for a given latitude/longitude point or a value from a single land-cover
