Summary
Abstract:
The image shows the average cumulative melt days for the Greenland Ice Sheet for the period 1979 to 2007. Oranges and reds indicate greater numbers of melt days, while blues and greens indicate no or low numbers of melt days. Note: This image uses a different ice sheet mask than Figure 1. As a result, some coastal areas showing melt in Figure 1 are masked out in Figure 3. Data are from Greenland Ice Sheet Melt Characteristics Derived from Passive Microwave Data, from the Scanning Multi-channel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) and the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) instruments.
