Summary
Abstract: The main objective is to derive estimates of primary production from
satellite ovservations of ocean colour. Data will be available for
oceanic and stratified shelf waters within months of the start and
through research within the project, estimates will be produced for
well-mixed areas in the Irish and North Seas. Production data will be
appropriate for initialising and updating numerical models proposed
within UK GLOBEC Marine Productivity and the development of times
series of production. A secondary aim is to provide Sea Surface
Temperature or chlorophyll-a data in near real time to support
research vessel sampling. Archived imagery will enable study of
spatio-temporal scales of surface biological and physical variability.
