Summary
Abstract: At its Satellite Communications Facility, the Johns Hopkins University
Applied Physics Laboratory receives daily data from the AVHRR
instrument onboard the NOAA polar orbiting satellites.

The JHU/APL Ocean Remote Sensing Group rapidly processes estimates of
sea surface temperature (SST) from these data. Regions of interest

Caption:  Gulf Stream Sea Surface Temperature from AVHRR on NOAA-12, May 23, 1996
Description:  This image is from a single NOAA-12 satellite pass early on the
evening of May 23, 1996 (6:44 PM EDT). A large warm eddy is seen just
north of the Gulf Stream. Land and clouds have been added from channel
2, the near IR. The sea surface temperature computation does not
extend to the edge of the pass.
