Laboratory Exposure of Chinook Salmon to Triactinomyxons (TAMs)
Entry ID:
MSU_CHS_SR
Summary
Abstract:
A laboratory challenge model was developed to evaluate the effects of a natural M. cerebralis exposure on the susceptibility of Chinook salmon. Fry at 3 weeks post-hatch were subject to repeated doses of 5, 50 and 200 triactinomyxons. Infection severity was assessed at 5 and 11 months post-exposure for each exposure group. This dataset details spore counts, clinical disease signs and weights for 5 fish from each replicate group per exposure at 5 months.
Purpose: These data were collected to determine if laboratory challenges using a single parasite dose are comparable to the sustained doses that fish experience in a natural exposure and to determine if the resistance of Chinook salmon would be overcome with repeated challenge. (Source:MSU)
