Copepoda from the coastal upwelling zone of the Chilean Humboldt Current System
Entry ID:
cl_udec_copas_copepoda_01
Summary
Abstract:
Copepods are numerically dominant and are major contributors to zooplankton biomass in the coastal upwelling zone of the eastern South Pacific. This data set comprises the majority of planktonic species of copepods found in the upwelling zone off Northern Chile and Central/southern Chile. This upwelling zone is known as a highly productive region sustaining large fisheries of small pelagic, large pelagic and demersal fishes. These copepods may be one of the key secondary producers supporting the fish populations and channeling phytoplankton C and N to the whole Large Marine Ecosystem of the Humboldt Current.
