Abstract:
This dataset consists of carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations (ppmv) from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) air sampling network. The network consists of five stations: Mauna Loa, Hawaii; Barrow, Alaska; Cape Matatula, American Samoa; South Pole, Antarctica; and, Alert, NWT, Canada. Data from the following previously unpublished sites were made available in 2004: Christmas Island, Baring Head, Kermadec Island, and La Jolla Pier. Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 from Mauna Loa represent the longest continuous record of atmospheric CO2 measurements. Daily atmospheric CO2 concentrations from the Mauna Loa site are also available as a CDIAC Numeric Data Package - NDP-001 which is available on ftp in the directory: "ftp://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/pub/maunaloa-co2/" Atmospheric CO2 concentrations were obtained at the following stations: Mauna Loa, Hawaii (1958 - 2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-mlo.htm" Cape Matatula, American Samoa (1981-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-sam.htm" Barrow, Alaska (1974-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-bar.htm" South Pole, Antarctica (1957-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-spl.htm" Alert, NWT, Canada (1985-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-alt.htm" Cape Kumukahi, Hawaii (1979-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-kum.htm" Christmas Island, Kiribati (1972-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-chr.html" Baring Head, New Zealand (1977-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-nzd.html" Kermadec Islands, Raoul Island (1982-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-ker.html" La Jolla Pier, California, USA (1969-2002) "http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/trends/co2/sio-ljo.html" The data were provided by C.D. Keeling and T.P. Whorf (Scripps Institution of Oceanography) The citation for this dataset is: Keeling, C.D. and T.P. Whorf. 2004. Atmospheric CO2 records from sites in the SIO air sampling network. In Trends: A Compendium of Data on Global Change. Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tenn., U.S.A. All of the above data are tabulated as monthly averages of atmospheric CO2 concentrations in parts per million by volume (ppmv). All of the data are available online from CDIAC.
