Tropical rainfall indices from rain gauge observations, 1850-1996
Entry ID:
JISAO_TROPICAL_RAIN_GAUGE
Summary
Abstract:
The University of Washington Joint Institute for the Study of the
Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) offers Tropical rainfall indices from rain gauge observations for the years 1850-1996. The indices presented on this page capture ENSO-related tropical rainfall variability. The data is that of Dai et al., (1997) and is available online both in ASCII and in netCDF formats. This pair of indices is the latest in an evolution of indices that have been created based on different rain gauge data sets, and it may not be the last. The preceding efforts for tropical Pacific and the tropics not including the Pacific are available.

The data after 1990 should be used with caution because station data have a
very limited coverage for the latest several years.
