Summary
Abstract:
The University of Washington Joint Institute for the Study of the
Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) offers a Global Sea Surface Temperature ENSO Index. This ENSO index is taken as the average SST equatorward of 20-degrees latitude (north and south) minus the average SST poleward of 20-degrees. Anomalies are with respect to the period 1950-79. The number of observations contributing is at least 1000 in each month and year beginning in 1860. This index is experimental.
