METEOSAT Cloud Motion Winds

Summary

Abstract: The Cloud Motion Winds (CMW) product is generated by applying
correlation algorithms to sequences of images. By tracking the
movement of cloud masses, winds can be derived. Each CMW product is a
composite product consisting of wind data derived from all three
spectral channels (IR, WV, and VIS) with the consequent possibility of
three winds per segment. The size of the CMW data (including winds
from all three spectral channels) assuming 750 winds per channel per
run is estimated to be approximately 605 kbytes (that is 806 bytes per
3 winds 750). The CMW product is generated 16 times evenly
distributed through the day (e.g. at 00.00, 01.30, 03.00, 04.30 etc).
