WestSEA Process Studies: Spring Transition Zooplankton Distribution, British Columbia, Canada
Entry ID:
GLOBEC_034_CAN_011
Summary
Abstract:
On the west coast of Vancouver Island, physical flow features
directly impact both primary and secondary producer trophic levels and the coupling between them and the larval fish that prey on them. Secondary trophic level zooplankton are the most important prey for many harvested fish species off British Columbia. Part of this process study focused on the physical factors determining zooplankton ... ![]() Purpose: The specific objectives were to: 1). Examine the spatial and temporal distribution of larval euphausiid abundance relative to the seasonal intensification of the equator-ward shelf-break current, tradeoffs between food supply, predation rish and advective washout and resultant effect on euphausiid recruitment; 2). Examine the seasonal evolution of cross-shelf-break exchange between shelf and oceanic copepod communities, distribution overlap of copepods with larval fish and juvenile fish.
