Meiofauna in sea ice of the Beaufort Gyre 2002 and 2003
Entry ID:
ArcOD_2006I1
Summary
Abstract:
This data set contains the abundance of sea ice meiofauna with additional information on ice thickness, snow depth and chlorophyll concentration. We studied the abundance, biomass and potential ingestion rates of meiofauna in multi-year sea ice (MYI) of the Beaufort Gyre during two icebreaker expeditions in summers 2002 and 2003. Ice cores were taken at a total of ten stations and analyzed for ice ...
![]() Purpose: We collected sea-ice cores and analyzed them for algal pigment concentration and meiofauna abundance in order to answer the following questions: (a) Has the sea-ice meiofauna disappeared from the Beaufort Sea ice, and if not (b) How does the meiofauna compare to coastal or offshore studies in terms of composition and abundance?

ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: Parameters were collected with the typical accuracies for such kind of studies.
LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: Samples were collected with consistent methodology on all stations. Same analyses were applied. COMPLETENESS REPORT: Some metazoan taxa were not identified in detail and summarized as others. Use Constraints
These data present a snapshot in time, but are representative for the location and depth where collected. Identification is done where applicable and known; different taxonomies might result into different species names. Information is not available on species level. Only higher taxonomic ranks were analysed.
